Ketamine Treatments

If you or someone you love is in the grip of ongoing depression, even after trying psychotherapy or antidepressant medications, ketamine treatment can help. Many patients who have not responded to other treatment or experience adverse side effects are restoring their hope with ketamine infusions.

Ketamine IV Infusion Therapy for Depression

Breakthrough Therapy for Depression

Although ketamine has been used as anesthesia in operating rooms for many years, ketamine IV infusion therapy is one of the newest, most advanced pain, depression and mood disorder therapies. Here at Transformative Medicine Center, we've had great success with ketamine infusion therapy and our patients have experienced amazing success. Ketamine depression treatment has been called the most important breakthrough in antidepressant therapy in decades.

Ketamine has become popular for treating depression. It is used in numerous emergency clinics and hospitals for treating depressed patients considering thoughts of suicide. The drug works by blocking brain receptors known as N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). The rapid effects and improvements in depression make them favored by patients with suicidal tendencies.

Ketamine works by increasing the synaptic connections between nerve cells in the brain. Within one or two treatments, patients report improved moods, energy levels and higher self-esteem. More trials are underway, but early science suggests that ketamine offers longer lasting depression treatment with less side effects than traditional drug therapies. Ketamine has also shown effectiveness against treatment-resistant depression. Many patients who have not responded to other treatment or experience adverse side effects are restoring their hope with ketamine infusions.

Intranasal Ketamine Infusion for Treatment-Resistant Depression

Transformative Medicine Center offers intranasal ketamine infusion as an alternative, cost-effective, treatment that has helped many patients coping with treatment resistant depression.

We've had tremendous success (85% remission rates) using intranasal Ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. Treatment resistant depression is a term used to describe a depression that does not respond to multiple traditional anti-depressants. Many patients become frustrated with the relative lack of improvement of symptoms or become more depressed due to side effects such as weight gain, decreased libido and others.

Why intranasal ketamine infusion?

Ketamine blocks an important nerve cell receptor, called the NMDA receptor, which is located in nerve cells that would otherwise be stimulated by a neurotransmitter called glutamate. Depression has been linked to activity changes in areas of the brain stimulated by these nerve cells; ketamine has been hypothesized to work by influencing these brain regions. In clinical studies, some patients reported rapid relief in their symptoms of depression.

Is intranasal ketamine for me?

After a careful evaluation, Dr. Scott McMahon will determine whether ketamine is appropriate for you. If you are suffering from moderate to severe depression and have not benefited from other treatments you have a good chance in benefiting from our intranasal ketamine program.

How soon would benefits of the treatment be apparent?

Some clinical studies have shown a rapid response to ketamine, with some patients experiencing very rapid symptom improvement. However, everyone is different and some patients may notice benefits over a longer period of time. During treatment, Dr. Scott McMahon will consult with you to evaluate your progress.
